How to run Linked Helper in a cloud / remote server – Linked Helper

Most often a cloud solution is more preferable for customers: it is more flexible because it can be used with any device, it is more convenient since there is no need to keep the PC always on and the app can be accessed from any place with internet access, and it is easy to scale for adapting to fastly growing business.

As you probably already know, Linked Helper 2 is not this one, it works locally on your PC as well as all the data it collects is stored in a local database. However, you can get almost all the features of a cloud solution if you run Linked Helper on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or dedicated server, just follow the instructions below, and soon you will be up and running Linked Helper in your own cloud.

Hardware and software requirements

You can get all the requirements from this article. In general, for running several instances of Linked Helper server needs to have at least 2GB or RAM and from 0.5 real core (one processor thread if multi-threadding is supported) per LinkedIn account.

Below you can find some examples of server providers and configurations our clients used for their projects.

HostZealot

HostZealot is a dedicated server provider that has a number of options to choose from where Linked Helper program is already installed.

On their webpage you can filter and find dedicated server that is capable of handing the number of LinkedIn accounts you're going to manage, i.e. you don't need to calculate how many RAM server should have or what's the minimum number of cores / threads should be in its CPU:

Ionos

Ionos doesn't have Linked Helper software pre-installed, yet this can be done manually after server is ready to use.

The two configurations of Ionos self-managed dedicated servers in the screenshots below are able to handle 11 and 15 LinkedIn accounts running at the same time correspondingly:

InterServer

VPS or dedicated server?

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a virtual machine (VM) that runs on the hardware along with many other virtual machines of other clients of your hosting provider which means the computing power is divided across all VMs. As a consequence, the performance of VPS may be lower depending on the workload of any other executing virtual machines running on the same hardware, but the price is lower as well.

The Dedicated Server is a physical server with dedicated hardware which means that its available resources are not shared with other customers and you are the only user who can benefit from all the hardware resources. Hence a dedicated server is more reliable in terms of performance, but the price is higher if compared to VPS.

If you want to manage many LinkedIn accounts at the same time, let's say 10, then we recommend renting a dedicated server to be sure there won't be any performance issues. AR6-32 SSD is the perfect choice for this number of accounts. In case you have a really huge amount of LinkedIn accounts to manage, let's say 50 - 100, then several mid-size dedicated servers is more preferable choice over only one but powerful server because a lot of LinkedIn accounts running at the same time may cause an I/O (input / output) throttling. For example, it's better to take 4 AR8-64 NVMe than two AE16-128 NVMe (see here).

If however you're planning to manage only one or two LinkedIn accounts, then VPS is a good choice, just make sure it's not too weak (2 vCores and 4 GB of RAM should be enough for managing one LinkedIn account, 4 vCores and 12 GB of RAM should be enough for managing three LinkedIn accounts).

Windows Server or Ubuntu

Linked Helper functions and features are the same for all supported operating systems (Windows, Ubuntu, macOS), and the program works quite well on any OS, so there is no difference between Windows Server 2022 (2019/2016) and Ubuntu 22.04 (20.04) in terms of functionality.

The only thing to keep in mind is auto-updates. As of now, the auto-update feature works well on Windows systems, no interaction from a user side needed. On Ubuntu, you need to approve the update by providing the user password, which means that you need to manually update Linked Helper from time to time.
