- Filter and collect leads for messaging
- Review campaign
- Run the campaign
Introduction
InMail allows you to directly message another LinkedIn member that you're not connected to.
Note: If you have a Basic (free) account, you can only directly message LinkedIn members that you’re connected to. You must upgrade to a Premium account to use InMails. But there is a workaround which allows you to send free InMails to those with Open Link status. Check this article to learn more: How to send free InMails to Open profiles
You’re allotted a specific number of InMail credits based on your subscription type. You can find the number of InMail credits you have from your Premium subscription page.
InMail messages can have up to 200 characters in the subject line and up to 2000 characters in the body. It’s important to keep in mind that your InMail signature is counted in the total number of available characters.
Another thing to note is that Linked Helper sends InMails via the platform where profiles were collected in the first place, so you may need to change the platform using Override platform plugin, which can be installed through Plug-in Store menu.
The reason why you need to change the platform is that if you have the Sales Navigator subscription and not LinkedIn Premium, then you are able to send InMails only via the Sales Navigator platform. If you collect profiles from the Basic LinkedIn platform and try to send an InMail to a profile, then sending will fail since the incorrect platform is chosen.
Create a new campaign
- Click Create new campaign button in the Campaign menu:
- Give your campaign a name, choose "InMail sequence" template, and click Create:
Follow the steps of campaign generator:
- Set the initial message template: How to create message templates
- Set the follow-up InMail to those who accepted your initial message request. Here you can either avoid it or leave it and also set up a minimum delay between messages. Please note that the initial InMail must be accepted by lead first, as otherwise LinkedIn will not allow you to send another InMail. Don't worry, Linked Helper automatically checks whether initial request was accepted or not:
- If you don't want to send any follow-up emails, make sure check box 'I don't want to send 3rd InMail message' is enabled and click Finish:
Filter and collect leads for messaging
Once campaign is created, Linked Helper offers you to add leads to the newly created campaign.
Note: Linked Helper doesn't have its own filters for collecting from LinkedIn it uses those of LinkedIn search, hence you need to finely filter profiles in LinkedIn search to get most qualified leads - How to filter and collect profiles via Linked Helper
For that, you need to:
- Click Continue button:
- Choose source. We will be collecting from LinkedIn, so you need to click on LinkedIn website:
- You can collect all your 1st-degree connections in one go from My network page, but there are no filters there. You can use LinkedIn, Sales Navigator, or Recruiter search pages to filter profiles by the criteria you need. Let's choose regular LinkedIn:
- You will be redirected to LinkedIn or other platform search page after clicking the "Load page" button:
- As it was already mentioned, Linked Helper relies on LinkedIn filters and simply collects all fetched profiles, so you need to make sure you utilize them to the maximum and precisely filter out profiles you wish to send messages to:
- After applying all the required filters, begin collecting process by clicking ‘Collect’ in the left menu and choosing the ’from current page’ option:
Review campaign
Review leads
You can check the collected contacts in the Queue list:
There you can:
- exclude (with Exclude list plug-in installed) some contacts in case you for some reason do not want to invite them - How to exclude contacts from a campaign in LH 2?;
- delete them;
- tag them (with Tagging system plug-in installed);
- download to create a file with custom variables and upload them into LH2 (with Custom template variables plug-in installed).

Review Actions settings
Let's overview the campaign workflow and Actions' settings. For that you need to click Campaign menu and navigate to the Workflow tab:
There are several Actions here, 4 in our case as we only added 2 messages into this campaign:
- InMail to 2nd & 3rd contacts sends the initial InMail message.
- Check for replies monitors replies to the messages sent via the previous messaging Action.
Note:
- Replied contacts will be moved to the Replied sub-list and this is the ending point of the campaign for them, even if you have other Actions in your workflow below.
- For free InMails (check How to send free InMails to Open profiles for more info), if no reply found within a specified period of time and initial message request is accepted, a profile is moved to the "Successful" list and further down in the workflow. For paid InMails, follow-up can be sent even if initial message wasn't accepted or replied.
- Check for replies action searches for replies from the profile only in one platform where the previous message was sent; it does not check a messaging history in several platforms. - InMail to 2nd & 3rd contacts sends a follow-up only those who received your initial message and accepted it.
Note:
- By default, it does not send the follow-up to those who replied anything after previous message or who received a manual message from you before. You can change this behaviour in the Message analyzer tab of the Action.
- It's possible to send those who replied to external CRM using Send replied to Webhook plug-in. - Check for replies monitors replies to the messages sent via the previous messaging Action.
Note:
- If this is the last step in the Workflow, then by default, the "never" setting is activated which means the Action continues checking for replies for contacts in the Queue and never moves them to the Successful list. If you add another Action below, then the "never" option is uncheck automatically and the delay is set to 1 day.
You can delete unnecessary actions, for example, if you want to send only one message, or you can add another messaging action at the end in case you'd like to send the fourth message. Please, check this instruction for more info: How to create a new campaign in LH2?
Every action can be enhanced with plug-ins providing extra functionality - Plug-in Store.
Run the campaign
This is the last and the most enjoyable part. Double-check that you collected all the right profiles, check your message template, and run the campaign. Let’s hope that you won’t wait for the response for too long!
You can export information for successfully processed contacts as a CSV file:
- Open the Successful list for the needed action.
- Click Select all and Download.
- Choose the needed delimiters and hit the Download button.
You can find the full article here: How to download profiles from Linked Helper to a CSV file. Unfortunately, MS Excel doesn’t support CSV files in the same way as .xslx files. But I still able to open any CSV file with MS Excel - How to Import CSV file into MS Excel?
