If you are reaching your non-English speaking audience, then names written in English will look weird in a message that is written, for example, in the Spanish language. This can be a hard challenge for those who do marketing in LinkedIn.
Linked Helper 2 allows you to avoid that by using custom fields to insert translated names or honorifics to your message, but if previously you had to translate all names manually or by using a translation service, with the new Google sheet that we've created, you can achieve it far easier.
Now, you can use our tool to automatically translate names from English to any language in four simple steps:
- Make a copy of our Google Sheet document
- Change the target language if needed
- Upload a contacts list to translate names
- Download translated names and upload them to Linked Helper 2
Make a copy of our Google Sheet document
We will be doing it using the Google Sheets file that was created by our developer. You can find it using this link, but you will not be able to edit it from the start: convert_eng_names_to_target_language
In order to edit this file for your own needs, you need to copy it to your Google account; You can do that by pressing the"File" button and then selecting "Make a copy".
Change the target language if needed
By default, the target language is Russian, so the document will translate English names to Russian ones. In order to change the language you need to navigate to the "Settings" list change the target language:
Source language code is the original language that is used for the names of your contacts, in our case it is English.
Target language code is the desired language that you want the names of your contacts to be transferred to.
This list uses the alpha-2 code for languages. You can find the code for your language here: https://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php
Upload a contacts list to translate names
Now that you've copied the file, we need a list of contacts whose names you want to translate. You need to download a list of your contacts in Linked Helper 2 and select the "," delimiter (Google Sheets)
After you've downloaded your contacts in a CSV file, you need to upload them to the copy of the document you made in the previous step:
- Open the document and make sure you're in import_profiles_files_here sheet.
- Press "File" menu of Google Sheet document
- Choose "Import" and select a file from your Google Drive or upload a new one from your PC.
- After you've selected your file and have uploaded it, make sure that you've changed your import location to "Replace current sheet".
After you've uploaded your contacts, you switch to the "result for export" list to check the result.
Keep in mind that this is a workaround solution and there may be times when Google Translate is not able to translate the first or the last name, so be sure to always check your list for possible mistakes.
If you do not like the translation, you can change it in the eng_to_target_language_library list:
Download translated names and upload them to Linked Helper 2
